GS-441524 is a plasma metabolite prodrug derived from the antiviral remdesivir. It has a half-life of around 24 hours when administered to human patients. Remdesivir and GS-441524 have been found to be effective against feline coronavirus strains responsible for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a potentially fatal systemic disease encountered by domestic cats.
The cat's body is usually equipped to fight off viruses with the help of white blood cells and antibodies. Nevertheless, cats suffering from FIP present with an inability to do so due to either an immune deficiency or defect. This allows the virus to spread quickly, resulting in either wet or dry FIP.
GS-441524 is capable of undertaking action to counteract the virus by utilizing a process called RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. In short, this describes GS-441524 breaking into the reaction cycle and preventing the virus from replicating.
Recommended dosage:
FIP(Wet): 0.3ml/kg * body weight kg + 0.1ml residue
FIP (Dry): 0.4ml/kg * body weight kg + 0.1ml residue
Eye / nerve entry: 0.5ml/kg * body weight kg + 0.1ml residue
Recurrence: 0.6 ml / kg * body weight kg + 0.1ml residue
For example, if your cat is 3kg and wet FIP, the dosage is 0.3ml/kg * 3 kg + 0.1ml residue=1.0ml per time per day.
As the treatment progresses, the weight of the cat will gradually increase. It is recommended to measure the weight several times a week and adjust the dosage in time.
