GS-441524 is the main plasma metabolite of the antiviral prodrug remdesivir, and has a half-life of around 24 hours in human patients. Remdesivir and GS-441524 were both found to be effective in vitro against feline coronavirus strains responsible for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a lethal systemic disease affecting domestic cats.
How long is the treatment?
The recommended duration of treatment is 12 weeks. However, the actual duration of treatment may depend on many factors such as how quickly your cat responds to treatment, the degree of FIP infection when you start treatment, and your personal financial condition.
Can GS-441524 be used in combination with other drugs?
Yes, GS is an antiviral treatment, and can be used in conjunction with other medications to improve your cat's overall health. However, Lysine is not recommended for use in conjunction with GS. Fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics and flea treatments should be avoided during FIP treatment. Interferon has no effect on the treatment of FIP virus.
What should I feed my cat during FIP treatment?
Freshly cooked fish, poultry and natural foods. If your cat has diarrheas, consider switching to dry cat food for a few days until the diarrheas stops.
